His matched pair of Remington New Model Army revolvers were battlefield tools, carried through the siege of Vicksburg, the hell of Shiloh, and into the McLean House at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865, the day Robert E. Lee surrendered and the Civil War ended. 

These weren't safe queens. They were war-won relics present at the single most important moment in American history. When Grant's personal Remingtons appeared at an auction in 2024, they shattered records, selling for over $5.17 million. Collectors weren't bidding on ivory grips and blued steel, they were buying the weapons that witnessed the reunification of America.

The Remington New Model Army was Grant's choice for a reason. Its solid-frame design made it more durable than the Colt, a practical decision for a commander who spent more time in muddy trenches than polished headquarters. Where other generals carried ornate presentation pieces, Grant carried tools. This coin honors that legacy.
